Punch Card
(Throughout Winter Carnival week!)
Visit at least 8 of the local businesses listed on the punch card to be entered in to win! Masks and following COVID-19 safety guidelines are required. You will collect a signature at each stop. Pick up your punch card Tuesday-Saturday of Winter Carnival week from any participating business to begin. These businesses will also be handing out our free 2021 Cooperstown Winter Carnival buttons! Turn in your cards to Kate's Upstate (134 Main Street) by Sunday, February 21 at 5pm to be entered in the drawing - one person will win the prize which is made up of gifts from all of the participating businesses!

Storybook Trail Hike at Parslow Road!

Looking for a free, fun, educational, and safe outdoor activity for the family?
Take a walk along Otsego Land Trust's Storybook Trail at Parslow Road Conservation Area. This self-guided hike will take you through the story "We’re Going on a Bear Hunt", by Michael Rosen & Helen Osenbury. Enjoy each page of this classic story as you hike along the trail. The Storybook Trail will be up at the property from February 16 to February 21. The trail is a 0.75 miles easy hike. Please hike safely and adhere to all COVID related guidelines.

Virtual Winter Carnival Tasks
(Throughout Winter Carnival week!)
Tasks will be announced each day at 3pm during the week of February 16-20 at 3:00pm via video, and you will have 24 hours to complete each task! We encourage you to share your photos of what you make. The tasks will be purposefully vague to allow as much creativity as possible! Share what you create with the hashtag #CoopWC. For an example of what to expect, watch this video.

Otsego Octet Winter Challenge
(Throughout Winter Carnival week!)
Otsego Outdoors has a challenge for you! Complete 8 of the featured trails (hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing) and receive the Otsego Octet Winter Patch. Includes trails near Cooperstown and throughout the County. Otsego Outdoors is a collaborative program of Otsego 2000, Otsego County Conservation Association, and the Otsego Land Trust. Please follow COVID-19 safety guidelines while hiking. Visit Otsegooutdoors.org for more info!

Medallion Hunt!
(Clues will be shared on this website and also on social media this year - during Winter Carnival week!)
The 1st 2021 Medallion was found on Tuesday, February 16 by the O'Brien Family! Because so many were looking forward to hunting, The Winter Carnival Committee would like to offer a second medallion hunt for the history lovers in the community. The first medallion was located within the Village proper in a village public park... but that may or may not be the case for the second mystery hunt. There will be one clue shared each day at 12pm on our Facebook/Instagram pages, and on our Medallion Clues page>>
Please wear masks and socially distance if you run into people from other households on your hunt!
A special “Thank-you” goes out to our esteemed local historian, Mr. Hugh Cooke MacDougall, who is responsible for the fascinating notes and stories found in the Cooper Society collections (jfcoopersociety.org). Mr. MacDougall is a treasure to our community. A second special thank you to Marcy Birch for putting together this additional Medallion hunt for you all!

The ice skating rink on Beaver Street (located behind the CVS) will be open (weather permitting) throughout the week! Check their website for updated hours or the Friends of the Village Parks Facebook page for updates. Please note that the warming shed and skate rentals are not available this year. Masks and social distancing required.

All essays submitted will be available to read here during the week of Winter Carnival, and the winner will be announced on Sunday, February 21. A panel will be selected to review the essays and select a winner. 500 words or less. Please email your submission, along with your age, and what town you are from, to cooperstownwintercarnival@gmail.com. Prize sponsored by Mels' at 22!

Virtual Snowman Building Contest
(Submit image before Winter Carnival - vote during the Carnival week!)
Photos of snowmen submitted by Monday, February 15th at 12pm have been entered in the contest! The snowman with the most votes will win a prize, and the winner will be announced on Sunday, February 21 at 5:30pm.! You never know when it's going to snow, so make sure to capture all of your snowmen between now and Winter Carnival! Image must be taken this year (images from previous years do not qualify!) This contest is sponsored by Bocca Osteria, Upstate Bar & Grill, and New York Pizzeria!

Peace Poster - Get crafty!
(Submit image before Winter Carnival - winner announced Carnival week!)
The Cooperstown Lions Club is sponsoring a Peace Poster Contest. Participants must be 11, 12 or 13 years old on November 15, 2021. The local winner will receive $250. The winning poster will also be submitted to the Lions district for further judging and possible higher state and international level consideration and awards.
The theme for the contest is, WE ARE ALL CONNECTED.
Expression of the theme,
artistic merit and originality are the three criteria used
to evaluate the posters at all judging levels.

Friends of the Village Library Winter Carnival Book Sale

The Used Book sale will take place in the Village Board room downstairs from the Library at 22 Main St. Masks and social distancing required. All proceeds benefit the Village Library of Cooperstown. Donations of used, good condition books will be accepted throughout the sale.

Shopping at My Neighbors Closet
(Wednesday and Saturday - must reserve your shopping time!)
2020 has been a particularly difficult year for many, both financially and mentally. It has also been a time for cleaning and organizing during quarantine time. In response, the Angel Network of Cooperstown has recently opened a permanent store called My Neighbors Closet to collect clothing donations and display them for all community members in need of assistance.

The shop is open to all. We get donations constantly so the supply of clothing is always changing. The My Neighbor's Closet has many stored items so if you are not finding what you are in need of please ask a volunteer for assistance.
We currently have clothing ranging in sizes newborn to 2XL. There is a large variety of winter coats, hats, scarves and mittens and gloves. Denim jeans and sweaters, lightweight coats, sweat shirts, mens and womens dress clothes. Sheets, blankets and towels. The clothing is organized for easy shopping and there is always a volunteer to guide and assist you.
The My Neighbor's Closet phone number is a Google Voice number: 607-431-8320. If you are uncomfortable shopping at this COVID time, leave us a message and we will attempt to shop for you. Your collected clothing can be picked up from the store anytime we are open, Wednesdays or Saturdays from 9am-1pm. We do follow the school closings schedule for both weather and COVID.

Grand Opening for Rudy's Wine & Liquor - Thursday (National Wine Day!)

Rudy's Wine & Liquor located at 143 Main Street in Cooperstown will celebrate its new ownership with a private ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday morning, but when they open at 11am make sure to pop in to peruse their new selection of wines and spirits, and check out the newly designed shop! The store will offer 20% off NYS wines and 10% off International wines as part of Winter Carnival (Tuesday-Sunday.) Masks and social distancing required, as well as all other COVID-19 guidelines. New owners Matt Denison and Joe Festa reopened the redesigned store on February 1, 2021.

All videos submitted will be virtually premiered on YouTube/Facebook/Instagram at 7pm on the Friday of Winter Carnival (February 19.) We can't wait to hear you sing, watch you dance, play an instrument, build something, etc. Everyone has a talent - what's yours?! Maximum of 5 minute long submissions.
